INTRODUCTION
Welcome to this web site, which is a unique and innovative way
– together with the actual practical arrangements provided
by the Partnership – of responding proactively to the delivery
challenge for Qualifying the Workforce (and to the CSCS : Construction
Skills Certification Scheme).
Note: There are other industry registration schemes,
many of which are, or are becoming, affiliated to the CSCS scheme.
Click here to view a list of these
schemes.
The Partnership seeks to help you both understand the training
initiative and then to take it up with your own companies and organisations
as soon as possible.
- Qualifying the Workforce in respect of; health and safety awareness
and training, occupational skill and competence and overcoming
gaps in Basic Skills proficiencies are the three 'drivers' behind
the Construction Skills Certification Scheme – the CSCS.
- The CSCS aims to extend skills and knowledge certification in
these three key areas across the whole of the construction industry,
and to assure a qualified workforce.
- A Qualified Workforce will help to reduce the unacceptably high
numbers of fatal accidents and serious injuries which occur annually,
improve workmanship and quality standards and give a greater sense
of confidence, pride and achievement to individuals.
- The Government, our major clients, many construction Forms of
Contract, the Health and Safety Executive, industry ‘drivers’
for change and improvement, relevant construction related legislation,
Investors in People and other influential agencies and authorities
are all supporters and promoters of the Scheme (and, implicitly,
the affiliated schemes).
- The Government are fully behind the initiative and, although
the Scheme is currently a voluntary and largely self-enforcing
one, we believe that we can all see that it will greatly assist
with the Government’s determination to drive the so-called
cowboys out of our construction industry.
- Occupational skill and competence can be achieved through National
Vocational Qualifications (NVQ’s) which are essentially
about the acquiring of job specific skills, and the gaining of
experience in the workplace.
- Together with evidence of Health and Safety Training, NVQ’s
are the basis of the CSCS.
- On Site Assessment and Training – OSAT – is the
practical way of delivering NVQ’s to our workforces, as
they continue with their normal tasks and duties, and with minimum
intrusion into the time spent doing their jobs – nobody
wants unnecessary or avoidable downtime.
